Pometon brings its sustainable vision for Powder Metallurgy to Euro PM 2026

Sustainability is becoming a strategic factor in the development of materials for Powder Metallurgy.

This is precisely the direction taken by the Pometon R&D team’s study, which will be presented by R&D Specialist Eng. Alberto Prete at the Euro PM 2026 international conference in Budapest.

The developed approach aims to combine mechanical performance, environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness.

The study “Development Of Environmentally Sustainable Powder Metallurgy Steels Through Manganese Alloying” presents an innovative approach using diffusion to impart the desired properties, using a more sustainable element.

The elimination of nickel reduces health and regulatory compliance issues, while the absence of copper promotes steel recyclability, contributing to the circular economy objectives increasingly demanded by European industry.

The results show that the new Fe-Mo-Mn solutions developed by Pometon are capable of achieving mechanical properties competitive with many of the current families of PM steels containing nickel and copper, while maintaining a significant reduction in the cost of alloying elements and greater supply chain stability.
