Pometon strengthens its technological capabilities with the installation of a VIM furnace

Pometon strengthens its technological capabilities with the installation of a VIM furnace: a strategic asset for REMEDHYS and, in future, for the development of innovative materials for EIGA

Pometon takes a further step forward in its technological innovation journey with the installation of a new VIM (Vacuum Induction Melting) furnace at its production site.
This investment represents a key element both for the Research & Development activities related to the European REMEDHYS project and for the enhancement of bar and advanced material production intended for EIGA atomisation in Additive Manufacturing.

A strategic infrastructure for the European REMEDHYS project
The VIM furnace plays a central role within REMEDHYS (Recycled Metals for Aboveground Hydrogen Storage), a project funded by the European Union and focused on the development of innovative solutions for the use and regeneration of metallic materials, in line with the principles of circular economy and sustainable energy.
Thanks to vacuum melting and the extremely accurate control of chemical composition, the VIM enables to:
• produce materials with high purity and controlled composition;
• develop alloys specifically tailored to the needs of the project;
• support the industrial validation of materials developed within the European consortium.
The integration of the VIM therefore strengthens Pometon’s industrial contribution to the project, making it possible to directly link research activities with real industrial scalability.

Full control over bar production for EIGA
In addition to the REMEDHYS project, in future, the VIM furnace will represent a fundamental pillar of Pometon’s Additive Manufacturing strategy.
The ability to produce internally cast bars, specifically designed for EIGA (Electrode Inert Gas Atomization) processes, will allow full control over the entire material value chain.
In particular, the VIM makes it possible to:
• precisely define alloy chemistry, including critical and interstitial elements;
• develop innovative and composite materials designed from the outset for atomisation;
• ensure repeatability, quality, and traceability of the bars used as EIGA electrodes.
This approach will further strenght Pometon’s ability to offer high performance spherical metal powders, intended for advanced applications in the fields of mobility, energy, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing.

Innovation, circularity, and industrialisation
The installation of the VIM furnace is part of a broader vision in which Pometon is committed to the development of circular and technologically advanced value chains. Metal powder production is not an isolated process, but rather part of an integrated system ranging from alloy design, to bar production, to atomisation, and to the potential recovery and reuse of materials.
With this investment, Pometon consolidates its role as a reliable industrial partner in European projects and as a provider of advanced solutions for Hydrogen Storage and Additive Manufacturing, combining research, sustainability, and industrialisation.
